Crimson Mesa History
Few lands suffered as much devastation from the Convergence as the Crimson Mesa. It is believed that when the Source Realm first began colliding with our reality, Western North America served as its focal point. Almost instantly, massive portals opened into a dark, mysterious universe inhabited by ferocious, terrifying monsters. Within just a few years, the lands were utterly devoid of humans.
During this time, Orcs native to that other world also began settling the area, finding it a fertile paradise compared to the hellscape of their homeworld. Drawing upon their knowledge of the great and terrible beasts from their own realm, they began to hunt these creatures down and tame the lands.
Soon, the magic began to recede, the portals started closing, and humans—now knowledgeable about the Source—began to retake the land. Today, the Mesa is a patchwork of petty Orcish kingdoms and bands of heroic human warriors in unforgiving lands haunted by nightmarish beasts. Here, only the mightiest endure, forged like blades in the crucible of the Crimson Mesa. The lingering remnants of the Source’s raw magic continue to warp the landscape, creating unpredictable hazards and hidden wonders alike. As rival factions vie for control over both territory and the power that remains, every skirmish becomes a stepping stone toward the legends of a new age.
